We would like to express our gratitude for the NYSARC Trust Services 2018 grants, which provide funds for guardianship and recreation programs.

NYSARC Trust Services administers supplemental needs trusts (SNT)  can dramatically impact the lives of people we support while enabling individuals to maintain eligibility for public benefit programs (i.e. Medicaid and SSI). These programs are vital to sustaining health, well-being, and necessary support and services.  Representatives from NYSARC Trust Services shared that they are proud to fulfill its commitment to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities by awarding a total of $2,778,500 in grants to The Arc New York Chapters statewide in 2018.

This year, The Arc of Delaware County received $11,000 in grant funds to support its guardianship services for people who would otherwise not have a legal guardian or advocate.  Supported by staff and community volunteers, our Guardianship program currently provides Guardianship supports and services to two people and is Standby guardian for one additional person.

We were also awarded a total of $15,000 to develop new recreational opportunities.  The grant funds have allowed us to provide many wonderful opportunities throughout the year, supporting our mission of creating fulfilling lives.  Grant funds were utilized in a variety of ways, from purchasing recreation equipment and technology to providing individual experiences to people who otherwise wouldn’t have them without funds from the recreation grant.    You can read more about two beautiful examples of how these funds were used, here in our website blog, as Edson’s life-long dream of riding in a hot air balloon comes true, and people we support, their families, and the community are treated to a wonderful holiday dance, complete with live music by FLAME.
