Several years ago, Delarc made an intentional decision to make Martin Luther King Jr. Day a ‘Day On’ vs. a day off.
What does that mean exactly?  We chose to use a working day to devote time to give back to our community.
For the past few years, we’ve held a ‘Stuff the Bus’ food drive in the community on this day. For many years volunteers and staff alike stood outside in the Northeast’s frigid January temperatures to collect items for local food pantries.
This year we decided to do something a little different.
This year for MLK Day of Service we held an “in agency” Food, Hat and Mitten Drive!  Our in-house drive kicked off Monday, 1/17, MLK Day, and ran throughout the week. Not everyone works on Mondays and needed a little more time to bring things in.  EVERYONE was invited to participate if they wanted to.

The food collected was donated to our local food pantries.  Hats and mittens were donated to the Carousel and DC4 preschool programs.

Terressa V helps staff deliver hats and mittens to the Carousel and DC4 programs.re donated to Carousel Children’s Services and Dc4, the day care program that CCS is integrated with.
We haven’t forgotten about ‘Stuff The Bus’!  This is a great event so we’re moving that to September for the National Day of Service. Temperatures will be warmer and hopefully (fingers crossed) Covid infection rates won’t be as high.  You’ll hear more about that event as September draws nearer.
