A Day of Connection, Creativity, and Celebration: Our Staff Retreat at SUNY Delhi

Staff from The Arc of Delaware County recently gathered at SUNY Delhi for our third-quarter staff retreat, a day dedicated to connection, reflection, and renewal. This special event brought our entire team together to welcome new staff, celebrate recent promotions, and reenergize around our shared mission and Unifying Principles.

Mind, Body, and Soul

The morning kicked off with breakout sessions designed to nurture the mind, body, and soul. Staff rotated through six engaging activity stations, including:

  • Buddha Boards – A peaceful space for creativity and mindfulness

  • Brain Gym – Simple, energizing exercises to boost focus and well-being

  • Zentangle – Relaxing art through mindful doodling

  • Tapping – Techniques to relieve stress and center emotions

  • Ice Breaker Questions – Meaningful ways to connect with teammates

  • Sensory Tables – A hands-on reminder to pause and be present

Each station reflected our Unifying Principles:
Those we serve come first, employee satisfaction, be innovative, be dedicated, communicate effectively, and commit to excellence.

Inspiration Through Art

After the morning sessions, we gathered in the theater for an incredible presentation by guest speaker Tom Varano of Emotion Into Art. Through his powerful combination of storytelling and live painting, Tom created three stunning works of art while sharing inspiring life lessons about passion, resilience, and purpose. His message reminded us of the power of creativity and emotion in everything we do — both personally and professionally.

  • Couponing Tips & Tricks with Katie Hodges

  • Fly Fishing Basics with Nikole Snyder and Brandon Kent

  • The inspiring film “Out of My Mind” in the theater

  • Plus, a variety of games and opportunity for conversation and laughter

The day concluded with door prizes, basket raffles, and closing announcements — sending everyone off into the weekend with smiles and renewed energy.
