At Studio 190, creativity isn’t just something we do, it’s who we are. Today, we’re thrilled to spotlight one of our incredible artists, Denise Darling, whose dedication and artistry have earned her statewide recognition.
Back in July, Denise captured hearts at the Voice! 21 Art Show, winning Second Place and the People’s Choice Award for her breathtaking cross-stitch piece, “The Tree of Life.” That alone was a remarkable accomplishment, but it didn’t end there.
Recently, Denise received even bigger news: “The Tree of Life” earned First Place in The Arc NY’s Annual Art Competition! This prestigious honor highlights not only Denise’s exceptional talent but also the patience and passion behind her craft. She devoted nearly a year to creating this stunning piece, drawn in by its vibrant colors and meaningful subject matter.
When asked what creating means to her, Denise shared:
“It allows me to do what I want to do—it gives me freedom.”
Her inspiration often comes from those around her at Studio 190. She learned cross-stitch from her brother and also enjoys paint-by-numbers and crafting playful mouse toys for cats.
For anyone curious about cross-stitch, Denise has simple advice:
“Try it out, follow the instructions, and have fun.”
Denise is already working on her next project, continuing to pour creativity and determination into everything she does. Cross-stitching may require precision and patience, but Denise proves that the results are more than worth it.
