There’s something special about enjoying a meal made with ingredients you’ve grown yourself, and that’s exactly what the gardening group at THRIVE experienced this summer.
Over the past several months, individuals at THRIVE have dedicated their time and energy to caring for their community garden. From preparing the soil and planting seeds to watering, weeding, and watching their plants grow, the garden became much more than a place to grow vegetables. It became a place to learn, work together, and celebrate each milestone along the way.

One of the season’s biggest successes was an abundant zucchini harvest. After months of care and patience, the group was excited to pick fresh zucchinis straight from the garden and put them to good use.
The harvest inspired a fun cooking activity as everyone came together to bake homemade zucchini bread. Individuals helped prepare the ingredients, mix the batter, and watch their hard work transform into delicious loaves fresh from the oven. Sharing the finished product made the experience even more meaningful because everyone had played a part in the journey from seed to table.
Activities like gardening and cooking offer opportunities to build practical life skills while encouraging teamwork, responsibility, and confidence. They also offer the chance to experience the satisfaction of setting a goal, working toward it, and enjoying the results together.
