Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month Spotlight- Marisa Romano

Meet Marisa Romano. A gal who will travel distances to advocate for friends and people with developmental disabilities.

People with developmental disabilities should have the right to be able to work where they want and not be discriminated against. Everyone should be treated equally.
Marisa has traveled to Binghamton and Albany to speak about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and help advocate for fair wages. She is a proud member of the self-advocacy group and believes strongly in fighting for human rights.
I want to help other people with developmental disabilities to speak up and fight for our rights.
A few years ago, there was a sign that used language she found to be offensive to people with disabilities. Because she spoke up, the sign was taken down. We are people with disabilities and should be treated with respect.
When Marisa isn’t advocating for DD rights, she enjoys spending her time working on painting cityscapes or hanging out with friends. She enjoys spending time in the kitchen baking delicious treats with her housemates such as cookies or brownies.
This Queens New York native is a Yankees fan and a big time NASCAR fan. Her favorite driver is Chase Elliott. She lit up when she talked about the time she was able to go to a NASCAR race at the Poconos in 2015.
Marisa enjoys spending time in her community. You can find her selling art at the Farmers Market in Walton on Fridays with Studio190. On Sundays she is the altar server at her church. Then when the day is done, she loves curling up with her two Yorkie pups, CC and Moose.
This bold, determined, compassionate lady is someone you’d like to have on your side. Treating everyone with love, kindness, and respect is important to Marisa, and she strives for all humanity to do the same.
