“I love seeing the progress our students make over the 1-2 years that they are with us. Watching them learn how to communicate verbally or through a communication device is so rewarding. We celebrate all the little victories like a child producing a new sound or trying a new food for the first time. The Carousel team works so well together, and I have made some great friendships while being here.”
“I have a unique position in the agency and as a clinician there isn’t as much room for a promotion. However, Delarc is very supportive of us continuing our education within our field. Amanda, the other SLP I work with, and I have attended ASHA (American Speech and Hearing Association) conferences. We recently attended a pediatric feeding course and are now certified as SOS feeding therapists. I had never taken a course like that before, it was intense, but we learned so much and we were able to bring back what we learned to better our feeding sessions and share our knowledge with our team and families of our students.”
Sarah continues to strive for improving within her position as the Speech-Language Pathologist. Sarah stated that she would like to become certified in myofunctional therapy. Myofunctional therapy is an exercise program that trains the muscles around your face, tongue, and mouth. Research suggests that it may be especially helpful for reducing sleep apnea, snoring, and other conditions affecting your mouth or throat. She stated, “We are seeing many children and adults with tongue and lip ties which impact more than just feeding and speech. Carousel typically has a waiting list because there are not many programs like ours around, it would be great to see our program grow.” Sarah stated she would like to continue to learn how to be more accommodating of sensory needs and how to adapt them into her speech sessions.

Delarc has so many different departments that you may not realize how many positions there are within the agency until you apply.”
